Face Mask Review!

Face Mask Review!

Who doesn’t love a good face mask and pamper? A good masking session has got to be one of the best parts of any beauty routine, and what I believe to be essential ‘me time. Over the past month I have been using some new masks that I have both purchased and been sent; so lets dive in to what they are.

The Exfoliating Mask –

The Ordinary Alpha 30% +BHA 2% Peeling Solution was originally suggested to me by one of the counter consultants to treat my textured skin. Peeling solutions or masks are a different and generally more gentle way of exfoliating the skin.

How does it work? Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) exfoliate the top layer of the skin, creating a brighter and more even appearance. Beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) exfoliate the skin and also clear the pores of build up. The formula also contains Vitamin B5 to assist in skin healing, black carrot as an antioxidant and hyaluronic acid to soothe the skin.

How to Use – Apply a thin layer over the skin for 10 minutes (No more), then since off with water. NOTE: Do not get this product in your eyes or mouth, rinse throughly after using.

Results –This formula offers a deep exfoliation that leaves the skin feeling smoothie and radiant. The ingredients help to fight visible blemishes and I find using this more frequently when I have breakouts very useful. I would recommend this product in replacement of another exfoliator, the texture of my skin has improved dramatically since I started using it.

Problems –This formula should not be used on sensitive skin, or on any cracked or broken skin. It Will Burn! Despite my love for this mask, if my skin is slightly cracked I have to go back to using a physical exfoliator.

The Hydrating Mask

I generally have reasonably dehydrated skin, as much water as I may drink; my skin just sucks up whatever I put on. I’ve been searching for a good hydrating mask for a while, after many purchases and a whole lot of research; I chose the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Mask after repeatedly watching Lisa Elridge’s video on the product.

How does it work? A layer of hyaluronic acid forms a net over the skin to release hydration over time which leave the skin supple and smooth. Lycopene-rich tomato seed lipids assist in restoring the skins natural barrier, this heightens moisture levels for healthier skin.

How to Use – the instructions for this product say use for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off. I tend to use this product as a night mask instead and I love the results. Apply a thin layer to clean dry skin, let the product sink into the skin and apply a second layer. Rinse off in the morning!

Results –

I enjoy using this mask so much I have to make sure I don’t over use it. Yes it’s a bit pricey, but for the amount you get and how little you need…I’d say it’s worth it. Skin feels plump, hydrated and oh so soft. NOTE: I like to use this mask on long haul journeys so prevent it drying out.

The Pre Makeup Mask

This is a product I was so kindly sent by Talika Paris and Space NK along with a series of other products I’m currently trying out. The Talika Vegetal Gold Mask is one of the brands cheaper masks and was created to be used as a hydrating mask.

How Does it Work? Ginkgo biloba is the ‘vegetal gold’ rich in antioxidants, soothing the skin and has anti ageing benefits. The formula combines ingredients such as camomile flowers to hydrate and soften the skin, with horse chestnut and red vine leaf to stimulate and boost microcirculation. Boosting microcirculation will help reduce bags and dark spots.

How to use – I use this mask as part of my prep for makeup application. Particularly on models or clients, allowing the skin to be as hydrated as possible before applying anything else. Due to this product leaving an illuminating shimmer on the skin, I personally think it would be a waste to use this mask if you weren’t going to do something afterwards.

Results – skin is left feeling smooth, hydrated and illuminated.

Problems – if you have large pores, make sure you rinse this product off well as the shimmer may emphasise pores.

I hope you enjoyed this review and have some insight into some great products! Let me know if you try any.
